Introducing PS3 (Playstation 3)

 

Sony introduced PS3 (Playstation 3) in 2006 although it is only now fully available in South Africa. It competes with Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii for the seventh generation video gaming market. It seen as the super video gaming console that will take the market with a storm.

The forerunners are known as Playstation and PS2 (Playstation 2). Although Sony already introduced PS3 to the public in 2005, it was only launched in November 2006. The release of PS3 in America didn't go without incident. At least sixty persons so desperate to get their hands on the PS3 (Playstation 3), fought over 10 consoles. One person was even shot with a BB gun in another incident while several systems were stolen by Gamestop employees.

Hardware System of PS3 (Playstation 3)

  • Internal hard drive of 20GB
  • Includes Wi-Fi connectivity
  • Flash memory card readers

The hard drive can be upgraded. Playstation 2 cables are compatible with PS3 (Playstation 3). Wireless networking options are available.

Software

Firmware can be downloaded for PS3 and games be upgraded. Additional XMB (the interface) display options are planned for early in this year (2007). Players can store several profiles and play music from their hard drives. While the players browse the Internet for photos, they can at the same time enjoy some music in the background. Great news for Linux supporters - PS3 can also run on this platform. The background also changes according to the month.

Compatibility

It is just as quiet, if not more than PS2 (Playstation 2) and has excellent ventilation through its heat pipes. It is also compatible with PS2 and Playstation. Memory sticks can be used for saved data from Playstation and PS2.
